2: On longest day starts darkest night

Post by Jenna »

2
On longest day starts darkest night.
In Chaos peaks, son fights for life, his fate turns to dust.
In Halls of Bough, Queen sighs, for end comes nigh.
No new babes to come, for here the secret lies.
Hope's light is lost by glare of Dark Eye.
Part of one, yet in arrogance part of none,
Sun sets on the oldest land; wood, water, and sand.
Only truth be known will lend them might.

Please discuss below.

Ok, this might sound slightly out there, but perhaps this marked people coming into the knowledge itself of people finding out about this war to come.

The longest day of the year was but a few days ago.

Events that weekend probably made certain this all is legit and that well the war and all has begun.

No, Kimberlyn. I fear there is more to it than that. I do believe the first line refers to the Solstice, that was but a few days past. But there is much more to this stanza.

It was just a starting point and I figured there was much more to it then that.

I would really like to hear what it could possibly mean.

We were mentioning the other day that the son fighting for life in the Chaos Mountains might be the son of the Elven Queen. I imagine that if he's not already dead, one of you elves could look like heroes back at home if you give him a hand...

As for the "no new babes to come", does that mean she can't have kids, or the elves can't have kids? Any elves know anything about this?

Would that make the Elf land "Bough"?

That does seem to make a bit of sense.... Because "Halls" is capitalized, it seems to refer to specific Halls. In the elven homeland, each elf belongs to a Hall. I guess in human terms, you might refer to them as Schools or Societies.

There is an Elven Hall of Nobility. Which leads me to beleive that Bough means Noble as it states in Stanza 24.

More likely than not, this Stanza does refer to the High Elves.

Though, if that is such, then what of Stanza 9?

Could not both stanzas refer to the High Elves? Parts of this one and number 9 both appear to be talking about the elves.

I have it on some authority that the birth rate for the High Elves has been lessening greatly with the last few generations (which for them takes a while, but...).

Hmm... could very well be that. I had considered the possibility that Darkness was the Dark Fey visiting their cousins or descendants Dark Elves but your interpretation of the Darkness being that within Sylvan'Con and their cousins being my brethren does make more sense. Either way both stanzas seem to speak of Elves.
